Released in 2011, Byrd has been planted across Colorado for many years, and has been a very useful parent in crossing for development of new varieties. Byrd is among the yield leaders, showing consistent performance under drought stress or high moisture conditions. Byrd has very good test weight, with very good end-use quality. Byrd established the use of the wheat curl mite resistance gene in the PlainsGold lineup, providing effective resistance to viral infections, including WSMV.
